The Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) course at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Homeopathic Medical College (ABVHMC) is a comprehensive five-and-a-half-year program designed to provide students with in-depth knowledge and training in homeopathic medicine. This course integrates classical homeopathic principles with modern medical science, ensuring a holistic approach to healthcare. The curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacy, forensic medicine, gynecology, surgery, and the core homeopathic subjects such as Materia Medica, Organon of Medicine, and Repertory. Students are trained to diagnose and manage acute and chronic diseases, with a focus on the totality of symptoms and individualized treatment. The program emphasizes hands-on clinical experience through internships in both outpatient (OPD) and inpatient (IPD) settings at the college’s hospital, where students learn to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. The course also includes research opportunities, allowing students to engage in evidence-based studies and contribute to the advancement of homeopathic medicine. Graduates of the BHMS program are well-prepared to practice homeopathy ethically and effectively, with the skills needed to address a wide range of health issues and contribute positively to the healthcare community.

The BHMS course at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Homeopathic Medical College (ABVHMC) is designed to provide comprehensive training in various aspects of homeopathy. By the end of the course, graduates will be able to:

  • Recognize the importance of Homeopathic Principles in addressing the health needs of the community.
  • Practice homeopathy ethically, adhering to the core principles of the discipline.
  • Diagnose and manage chronic diseases through clinical assessment and appropriate investigations.
  • Conduct efficient homeopathic management of various ailments by quickly assessing patients and synthesizing clinical and investigational data based on the totality of symptoms.
  • Identify social, economic, environmental, biological, and emotional determinants of health in individual cases and integrate them into therapeutic, rehabilitative, preventive, and promotive strategies.
  • Stay updated with current knowledge and recent advances in the field through self-learning and participation in Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs.
  • Critically analyze relevant research literature and apply findings to influence homeopathic practice effectively.

Program Specific Outcomes

At the end of each year of the BHMS program, students at ABVHMC will achieve the following specific outcomes:

  • I-BHMS:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the anatomy of different systems and their applied anatomy.
  • Understand the physiological functions of various systems and their applied physiology.
  • Develop practical skills related to Homeopathic Pharmacy, including the preparation of homeopathic medicines.
  • II-BHMS:
  • Acquire satisfactory medico-legal knowledge to understand the relationship between law and medicine, including the basic signs and symptoms of toxicology and poisoning through the study of Forensic Medicine.
  • Gain basic knowledge of pathology, microbiology, and parasitology involved in chronic diseases with practical applications in patients.
  • Become well-versed in the principles and fundamental laws of homeopathy, including the ability to take cases and apply Hahnemannian principles.
  • Understand the pathophysiological action of homeopathic medicines and apply this knowledge in patient care.
  • III-BHMS:
  • Diagnose surgical diseases and apply appropriate management principles, including homeopathic therapeutics for treating surgical cases.
  • Diagnose gynecological and obstetric diseases and apply homeopathic therapeutics for treating such cases.
  • Develop expertise in managing one-sided diseases, case-taking, and homeopathic management of such cases.
  • Gain basic knowledge of group remedies and their practical application.
  • IV-BHMS:
  • Clinically diagnose and examine patients with an emphasis on homeopathic management.
  • Understand preventive and social aspects of health and disease.
  • Select the correct repertory and use it as a tool to find the correct similimum.
  • Apply miasmatic understanding of cases with practical application of miasms.

Program Outcomes

By the completion of the BHMS program at ABVHMC, students will have developed:

  • I-BHMS: A foundational understanding of anatomy, physiology, and their applied aspects, as well as knowledge of the sources and methods of homeopathic medicine preparation.
  • II-BHMS: Knowledge of pathological changes in various diseases and the medico-legal aspects of practice.
  • III-BHMS: The ability to diagnose and manage surgical and gynecological diseases, with an understanding of the scope and limitations of homeopathic treatment.
  • IV-BHMS: The ability to clinically diagnose and examine patients, with a solid understanding of preventive and epidemiological aspects of diseases, and the ability to choose the correct similimum using knowledge of Materia Medica, Repertory, and Organon.
